Compassion Symposium 2022

We were delighted to be invited to Emory University’s Centre for Contemplative Sciences and Compassion-Based Ethics in October to participate in a meeting of SEE Learning International partners and the Juliet Shiel Symposium on Compassion.

International Partners from India, Spain, Colombia, Brazil and the UK meet with SEE Learning Director Ryder Delaloye.

Our attendance at the two events provided the opportunity to meet many individuals we have been working with over the past five years face to face and to renew our partnerships. Delegates from Brazil, Colombia, Spain and India (as well as a representative from The Dalai Lama Centre in the UK) discussed and shared our different strategic and operational approaches to compassion education. We also worked with SEE Learning team to find ways that we could support each other and the meeting the challenges we face working with educators, children and young people.

The Juliet Shield Symposium on Compassion is in its fourth year and brings together thinkers from a wider range of fields, from business, healthcare, neuroscience, academics, education and media, to focus on the theme of implementing compassion. We shared examples from Compassion Matters and how we applied that learning to our SEE Learning UK project so far. Other themes included the role of philanthropy in disseminating compassion, compassion in healthcare and using digital tools to disseminate compassion. The keynote address, ‘Compassion: An Engine for Primary Healthcare' with Dr Shams Syed can be viewed here.
